Medical Communications is a process whereby clinical research and scientific information is disseminated to medical professionals, researchers, the FDA and the general public.

The formats in which the information can be exchanged are journal articles, abstracts, manuscripts, clinical summaries, Investigational New Drug Applications (IND), New Drug Applications (NDA), focus groups, symposia, slide kits, Continuing Medical Education Programs, CD-ROMs (and other interactive and/or electronic media), training manuals and advertisements.

The content is usually related to pharmaceutical products that are in the process of being researched. In addition, some communication campaigns also include products that are recently approved by the FDA, or that are already on the market. For details regarding the research process we suggest you investigate http://www.ClinicalTrials.gov/. This site discusses each phase of the clinical trial process quite nicely.

The environment where this work occurs is generally in pharmaceutical companies, clinical research organizations and medical communicationcompanies/agencies.

The opportunities abound in this industry for both seasoned professionals and those that are interested in transitioning their experience/skills.
